My friend had a dog that loved to eat rocks, as well. So I know that can be a problem. I have seen bowls for sale that are made with obstacles molded into them so that the dog has to slow down and work around the obstacle to eat. Pretty much prevents bloat.

My girls eat their kibble out of the bowl....sort of.... what they do is the remove a couple of pieces, carry them to the dining room, drop them and then eat them one at a time. Baby will carry one in, drop it, then lay about 7 inches from it and wait for someone to look like they might be interested in it, then she'll snatch it up and eat it. Bear, will literally scoop up a mouthful from the bowl, drop the entire mouthful on the kitchen floor and eat from there, so I guess they are floor eaters, too. Bear, at 80lbs, eats no more than 1cp per day. There quirks are really fun to watch, each dog is different.
