I hate when people ask me that bc I want to say there's no such thing but I'm sure Id sound rude. I know I'm not the only only one that this happens to daily. So, what do you guys tell these people? I want to tell them something bc I don't want them to not be informed then go purchase a sick little one bc they were told it was a "teacup". Which I have seen happen so many times. |
I don't get upset over the term teacup when someone uses it from not being educated. I only dislike it when a breeder uses it to promote their tinies and justify breeding too small of females. People have asked me many times if mine are teacups and Ben is now pushing 5 pounds (he should still be in the 4 pound range but we have had a big weight gain since his neutering). Annie is still growing and she is pretty small but both are healthy pups. So -- people will ask about teacups no matter what size they are -- just more so with the really small ones.
I don't think they do it to be unkind so I just say "Yorkies don't actually have teacups but mine are good sized." I have never had anyone say anything rude at all about mine. I did have a lady tell me "she" had a teacup at home which was a lot smaller than mine. I just smiled and said "I love them all sizes." I don't have any size conflict so I guess I don't take anything people say personal. Mine are the size they are supposed to be (except for a pound of excess we need to get off chubby Ben). You just can't worry when the uneducated say things about size.
Actually the standard says up to 7 pounds -- there is no minimum. So even those little tinies are in standard size wise. I really do love them all sizes!
