Unhappy Trusting a Buyer...Scams

I'm curious to know, what 'red flags' others have come across
when a potential buyer contacts them about an adult dog or
puppy they have for sale?
I was contacted yesterday to release one of my girls to a
buyer in FL. While she did leave a late night message on my cell
(lovely British accent BTW...), we've not yet spoken personally.
She's merely gathered info via two short emails and an ad I'd placed.
She informed me this was meant to be because their Yorkie had
just passed away from heart failure when she saw my ad. And,
that her husband had fallen in love with the photo of my girl. I
didn't have the chance to get back to her right away, so she
sent several frantic emails in succession.
But, this is what got me ~ She'd already contacted her
'personal courier' and had a flight picked out. Oh really!? I was told
to expect her courier to be at my home this Wednesday to get my
dog and that she would be handing me a check from Bank of
America. What the heck?? I had not even agreed to anything, nor
did we have a real discussion on important details! DA NERVE!
I said NO thank you and best wishes in your search. So today's
email was rather long winded, with attempts to calm any fears I
may have about our transaction. What transaction? Since when
does NO not mean NO?
I don't like being cynical and second guessing people's intentions,
but for now will trust the vibes I'm getting....sigh. It's gonna be
a long afternoon, judging from the 8 phone messages she's left.
