They may eat less when teething if their teeth are hurting. While sometimes 'chewing' (bones) can help relieve some of the pain, biting/eating can sometimes hurt a bit more esp with kibble.

Palpate his teeth and see if he exhibits pain signals...that might tell a little. Maybe add in moist...or...add some water to his dry food to soften it up a bit.
