Default What's the best way to get no red eye and backdrops, etc....

I want to get some 'professional' looking pics with my Canon Rebel XT. I just have the standard lens still but I'm extremely happy with it.

I find that indoors tho, Jackson's eyes can sometimes turn out really green or red or whatever. What is the best way to reduce that? When I don't use flash at all, the red eye goes away, but the pics turn out blurry because he either moves, or whatever. It's like a 50/50 chance that indoor pics of the dog are going to have wacky eyes.

I am going to take pics of Jackson and my little sister, Emma, together for Christmas pics... do people use sheets for backdrops? If I just had a plain white sheet would that look stupid? Do you think it'd be better to set up a sheet outside so you can't really even tell we're outside, but the natural sunlight would obviously look better most likely.

Tips appreciated!
