Default Piddle pad training

Ok so I just picked my puppy up this morning. He's 9 weeks old and I already love him to death. But that's neither here nor there lol...the breeder had him doing really well going potty on newspaper but I would like for him to be trained on piddle pads. When I brought him home I caught him 3 times in the act of peeing on my floor, yelled no and put him on the piddle pad with the "housetraining aid spray" (the spray that is supposed to encourage him to potty in a specific area). He just looked confused and walked right off when I said go potty. The third time something clicked in my brain and I put a piece of newspaper on top of the piddle pad and sprayed and told him to potty. He peed almost immediately. But am I going to have to keep putting paper on the piddle pad for him to go? How can I ween him from this?
