I think they test you, in their process of figuring out who the "alpha dog" is (and it should be YOU). We have only had a couple of those incidents, followed by me scolding him and letting him know that is not an acceptable behaviour. I'll even take away his bone from time to time just to test him...and have no problems at all these days! Good luck puppy training and congrats on your new pup!
