I just went through this with my littlest yorkie. I recommend taking them to the vet. Although I had to take her in twice and get xrays all to find nothing wrong bone-wise, I am still glad I took her in. Just in case there was a cracked bone, LP or something that needed immediate attention. Hers was evidently a soft tissue injury -- she limped (or as you describe help one foot up) for a week! I was pretty worried but she came out of it fine. Still better to kow for sure. If something were to be broken, then delaying vet attention could mean a bad healing.
