Across the water 20 miles and in France you can take your dog pretty much anywhere - including restaurants.
Thanks for the other info - I hope we find a bar or similar to accept her (just outside  I have a dream of drinking cocktails by the beach and having her with us.
We are looking at apartments (they are dog friendly) but I am thinking we may need doggy day care if DH can't take her to his job at the airport....I know for sure I can;t take her with me.
How do they do in the summer when it must be really hot - I'm a bit scared myself?!

Having AC is a must, and is generally in every apt. and house. High humidity for sure, so you will find yourself keeping your hair either real short to just blow dry, or real long to pin up off the neck. It may take a year or two to acclimatize to the high humidity though.
