One of my rescues (a collie/a few years back) was deaf and he was great with hand signals.
I also taught him to come to me when I stomped on the floor if he was not in sight. The porch light flashing on and off was his signal to come in from the back yard at night - I waved to him during the day and he would come if he was looking at me. |
