I thought about that too. It would make sense, and I've seen the ashy color if he poops in the middle of the night and I don't get to it till morning. I was with him when he pooped a little while ago. I saw it hit the pad and split open. It wasn't sitting out at all. He's been eating the same thing for at least 3 weeks now, maybe 4. No treats, he has had a Merrick's Wishbone, but I let him have it for 30 mins at a time and not everyday.
How can I better describe it....
Well, for lack of a better way to describe it, his poops looked similar to this:
