I've done both.. he does the same thing, although he is more consistent when I'm standing. The issues is most prominent when I'm sitting on the couch and just call him and ask sit, as many training books say, he doesn't generalize that well, he just lays when he's on the couch (which I suppose isn't a bad thing) lol. But yeah he's not very consistent. I haven't properly put a word to the down yet, I figured I'd master the sit first, but he downs super well.
