I think this is a wise move. A "knowledgeable" breeder does not mind answering any questions you may have about the breed or the health issues in the breed. OR even the care the puppy should receive. If you can't get even the basic questions answered from the breeder then you should move on. I guarantee YOUR breeder is out there someplace. Why don't you start with the YTCA? Go to the YTCA.org website. There you will find a list of the YTCA members who offer puppies. AND you will also find a list of regional local Yorkshire Terrier Clubs. Almost of of these local clubs have a breeder referral list also. This is surely no "guarantee" of a healthy puppy. But most of these breeders do abhere to the "breeders code of ethics" as put forth by the national club. Good Luck!
