I agree. My 15 year old Lady has liver damage from ten years of phenobarbital for seizures and her homecooked recipe has about 18% protein. With a dog with liver disease, you just have to be careful what protein your feed them.

Animal proteins, especially red meat, produces the most ammonia and is hard for the liver to process. White fish like cod and pollack are good. Protein from dairy is good, too - eggs, cottage cheese, etc.

This is a good article to read, but it is not a substitute for consulting a nutritionist.
