The antibiotic should take care of it, if it was bacterial but it will not have an affect on fungal infections -- need an anti-fungal for that and that is not normally given unless they swab, look under the scope and know it is fungus. Bacteria is probably the biggest percent chance but I always hate to treat without knowing. They probably noticed other charateristics of the infection that looked bacterial in nature.
