My dog used to do the exact same thing!! I only made it worse by picking him up so he would be quiet. Then I would use the phone in another room to avoid the barking (Sammy had me trained very well!!). Then finally I would firmly say SHHH quiet!! Eventually it worked. I think he just outgrew it. Now he barks at the blender or the toaster.
