Haleakala National Park.... Don't know if they have the same excursion, but years ago my husband and I went up to see the sunrise over the crater and it was beautiful. They took us up in vans and then we rode bikes back down.
You start out above the clouds and you are on the brakes the whole time. Halfway down we stopped for breakfast that was included.
We were told to dress in layers as it is cold up there at night. We wore shorts and tee shirts, then sweats and they gave us jackets, gloves and helmets. As we descended we peeled off the layers.
I have a thing about heights so the beginning was terrifying, but if you're really too scared, you can ride the van down at any point. I made it! For me it was one of those things that you do ONCE. But it was unforgettable.
You can also just drive up for the sunrise and drive back down.
