Whatever mysterious metabolic processes operate in humans operate in dogs, I guess. I free feed Thor, and he is skinny as a toothpick. And the thing is, he LOVES food, as long as it's not his kibble. If I give him a lot of treats, he just eats less kibble. So I assume he's not hungry. Me on the other hand....

It really would be a bummer to be a dog and hungry all day, wouldn't it? There must be some type of experiment you could do. Like put out something they normally wouldn't want to eat, like broccolli. If your dieting doggies eat it, that probably means they are hungry enough they don't care what it tastes like anymore.
