I live in Gainesville VA, so I can't recommend anything really close to you. When we first moved here we were shocked at the cost to board a dog over night. It was well over $100 a night for our 3 dogs. We were used to paying $30 to $50 a night in Albuquerque. For long bording, we have used Paws Awhile Motel in Warrenton... it's run by nuns!
However, we found it was cheaper, easier and most importanly our dogs were better adjusted to just having a dog sitter come in a couple times a day if we go on vacation. I don't know how I'd feel about a total stranger being my dog sitter though. A neighbor of ours started his dog sitter business when he first moved here, so I know him and I am comfortable with him around my dogs and being in my house. We do have a doggie door so the dogs are free to go and come as they please.
