Gatsby looks like he has the coat more of an Australian Terrier. Have you ever seen them? They're from the Yorkie family, I believe Aussies and Yorkies were mixed to make Silky's.
I don't think it will take out any real curl, you need a hot iron for that, but it does smooth out the coat. When Joeys coat was still long, Joey's breeder spayed it on one side and you could tell the difference between the two sides. One side was fluffier, and the other side was smooth and sleek. By the way, you just use a tiny bit she said.
