I have a 6.5 month old female and ive caught her humping her toys twice, I researched the subject and it seems to be more of a dominance thing then a sexual thing.
But yes if you are planning on having her spayed then its best to have it done before her first heat as it will reduce the chances of her getting mammary cancer.
The best age to spay is between 6-8 months.
