I am soooo glad I am not the only one who has issue with the "Is she a teacup" question or issue!!!
When I decided to get a little girl I was thinking of another Shih tuz, it was my vet who talked me into a Yorkie. He explained about all the scam and what to be aware of and refered two breeders. He recommended to not get what he called the "tiny tiny" ones because they are not as healthy and I would have problems keeping them safe and healthy. I got Remy -- her mother was 5 lbs and dad about the same.
Remy is 3.5 -- long legs and the most beautiful baby in the world (to me). She is 11 months and she has my husband, her two shih tuz brothers and me wrapped around her paw. The vet said she would be too small to breed so I had her altered. I don't want to chance her getting sick or hurt...
When we go out people will tell me about teacups.. I always say "oh... have you had a lot of health problems?" or "that's funny.. the breed standards state 3 lbs is as small as they should be" Your right, they often get mad. I have seen some yorkies that are twice as heavy as Remy (or more) and they are beautiful and happy and healthy and it makes my heart happy!!!!!
