That's what I would do!
I don't really quite understand why on earth a dog would be better off sleeping at an empty vets office when they could be home... that's never made sense to me! I also made sure to find a vet where I could pick Jackson up the same day and I did the same thing as you... I brought him in right when they opened at 8 and picked him by 4pm.
