And, to top it off, we now have to wear a cone and have an eye creme until the infection is completely cleared up.
This is just our experience but wanted to so if you are trying to grow it out perhaps you can be even more cautious than I thought I was already being. (((sigh)))

Awww, I'm sorry about Maddie, I hope he eye heals quickly! I've been very lucky with growing Jesse's hair back around the eye area, it lays fairly flat..you really do have to watch out that it isn't sticking into the eye area though, hugs to Maddie
