Default self protection

I had the same thing happen to me with a guy trying to get into my car. I was at a Walmart and I opened my trunk and put stuff in. I noticed an old pickup sitting across from me with two really slimy looking guys. I got in my car and immediately locked my door I saw one of the guys come up from behind my car and he grabbed my door handle and tried to open the door. He also tried pounding on my window. I put the car in reverse and took off, boy did he move fast. My husband is a cop and I was taught early as were our kids. The minute you get in your car, before anything else you lock your doors. Even if you are just running to the store, in a small town or anywhere else, lock your doors. Especially in town where you may stop at a stop sign or red light. It only takes a minute for someone to grab the door handle. I have pepper spray in my car that is the kind the police carry. DH has my car or I'd go look. I also have a small case that I carry on my purse that has a pin with a ring like they have on hand gernades, when you pull the pin it gives off a horrible ear splitting high pitch noise that attracts alot of attention. As for carrying a handgun, it's okay as long as you know what you are doing. It's also possible for a attacker to get it away and use it on you. In most states you have to be able to prove that your life was in danger or you could face charges. I do have a permit to carry but beware of all the places that have signs that you can not bring a fire arm into their business. I carry mine if I walk anywhere alone or in the woods. I keep it by my headboard in the bedroom as most assualts occur on women at night. It's true if you get one you have to be able to make the decision to shoot to kill. Not all people are able to take someones life. If you do at your home, make sure they are in your residence! I alway joke with my DH that I'll shoot them first then drag them in the house....he doesn't find that funny. He taught me at a firing range to shoot and the rule is 2 to the chest and 1 to the head. Think about it before buying, are you prepared to do that? I'm not trying to discourage anyone from a permit to carry, just be aware of what you feel capable of doing.
