I believe the reason many don't stick around is because they forget to put on their big girl panties before joining a forum. If one is easily offended, public boards are not the place for them. Opinions differ and innuendo and tone are subject to interpretation. Rather than assuming someone is being rude or flippant, they need to stand back and see if the post could be taken another way. And if they decide the post truly was inappropriate, they need to stop and think about whether or not being rude back does anything to advance the conversation. If it doesn't, then why respond at all? Just ignore it and move on.
