This is what I had to do with a puppy I had that was from a pet store. Until I got her, her life was all about being in a cage, or crate and having no other place to go. At first, she would almost wait to go into the crate to go, it seemed. I ALWAYS made sure she had clean bedding and finally started getting up during the night to take her out. She finally got it.
