They are also CKC registered, which I thought meant a reputable breeder since they care about lineage. Downside was that while they seemed to care for their puppies and who they sell it to, as Fldebra has stated they are very money driven proven from the high costs of the puppies.

Another site I was curious about: NY - New York Maltese Puppies for Sale by Maltese Breeders - New York City, Hempstead, Long Island, Brookhaven, Oyster Bay, Buffalo, Rochester, and Yonkers
their puppies are AKC registered, and they only bring together the best breeders for maltese and sell them online. However, you cannot meet the parents for they are located in different parts of the country. I wasn't sure if this was a "shady business" either but from what I can tell, it seemed legit. Their prices run high though on the "smaller" yorkie as well.. going up to $2500!

So is it ok to assume that any breeder selling from a website/petstore or website without meeting the parents is a bad breeder?
CKC registration can be one of two things:

Canadian Kennel Club -- reputable, the Canadian counterpart to AKC
or
Continental Kennel Club -- just a piece of paper. They will take anyone's word as to the breed of the dog and register it for a fee. It is never used by reputable breeders.

Regarding the second website, they sound like brokers to me, and brokers are supplied by puppy mills. Sometimes the stud and the bitch are owned by two different people, so you might only be able to see the Mom, but if you can't see either of the parents and the pups somehow wind up in another part of the country, that is a big, red flag.
