My dog also has the scaly, flaky skin. No open sores. This seemed to appear after we turned the furnace on. We also have dry skin right now. I usually use the oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. I am currently using the Happy Jack Itch No More shampoo. It contains refined tar solution, sulfer, salcylic acid and coat conditioners.
Also applying Nutri-Vet Cool Skin for added relief. She seems to not be scratching as much, but still flaking.
Any suggestions on supplements such as fish oils on her food or along these lines?
