I am personally not a fan of crating in the traditional sense. However, when you have a puppy, keeping him/her safe needs to be your first priority. I've seen people use a baby playpen before, which I think is really nice (especially if you're home with the little guy). They also sell little indoor fences that you can put up to create a separate play area.
