My yorkie Robbie is nearly 4 and in his time has had to undergo 5 opps and has come through the anesthetic with no problems, if you have a good vet put your trust in them.

As for neutering unless there is any medical problems I would not personaly have it done. I have never had any of my male dogs neutered.
