How inconsiderate of them. Some people just do NOT care as long as it doesn't affect them - they won't start to care either unless someone actually points it out to them - Maybe talking to them would help and explain about your friend ?
What a nice person you are to do this with your friend - it must be so sad to see her like this....you must be very special to her...sometimes it's the little things that mean so much and it sounds like you are a very good neighbor....
