We have 2 girls, each less than 2 years old. We got them @ 8 weeks old & were very focused on socializing them from the get-go (exposing them to as many people, including kids, and other dogs, when available) as much as possible.
I don't worry about them snapping. The only time I saw anything close to a snap was when my 5 year old niece tried to pick up Gracie for the 100th time in an hour (I could tell Gracie had had enough and told my niece to leave her alone) and Gracie responded with some growling and snarling as a warning.
I think good socialization makes them confident in different situations and thereby minimizes chances for snapping.
