I understand what you mean about Christmas and you have a great point. Generally we're pretty laid back here and just go down to my mom's for dinner. (about 1/2 mile away!)
Even if it's a little before or after I just thought it'd be a good time because the girls are off for three weeks and I thought it would be a great time for them to be able to play/bond with the new puppy.
They are both off until the 10th of January.
So a little after Christmas may be best - maybe find a litter that's ready after New Years. That would still give them a couple of weeks to play with the puppy and for all of us to get into the new puppy routine!

Starting looking for our breeding now is your best bet. Remember reputable breeders don't allow pups to go home on your first meeting. It doesn't work that way. There is the meet and greet. They are interviewing you too. Their first concern is their puppies. Making sure that they find the best possible homes for them.
They will grill you, but remember when buying from a reputable breeder you are buying your breeder for the rest of that puppy's life; available for you 7 x 24. The deal doesn't end when you walk out the door, you have a relationship.
If you don't feel comfortable with the breeder walk away. You buy your breeder first, then the puppy.
