To be honest... I couldn't really explain how I taught it. He kind of just 'gets' what I want him to do at this point... like it may sound dumb, but I seriously will 'talk' to him and show him what to do first.
This started with a sock putting it in his toy bin... he picked up the sock by himself to play and I thought it'd be great to actually TEACH him... so I took the sock and I pointed to the toy box, and put it in there and he watched me do it. I could see his little brain working. I then use the clicker to mark exactly what I want. He's starting to offer a lot of behaviors on his own now, so I put the sock in front of him and when he figured out how to pick it up, I clicked at the exact moment and treated. And it just went from there!
