A little late to be trying o figure this stuff out now. These are things that should have been researched way IN ADVANCE of breeding. <sigh>
Yes, your female will most certainly need calcium supplements to ensure that she does not suffer from eclampsia. Talk with your vet (or mentor...you do have one of those, right?) regarding how to best go about supplementing her. Research the signs of eclampsia so that you know what to watch for.
Also, research mastitis as well. There are things you as the breeder owner can do to help prevent issues with that as well.
If you feel your female is in desperate need of being cleaned, then do it. Only wash her bottom half. Use warm water and a mild, baby shampoo. Make sure that she is completely dry and warm before putting her back with her babies. |
