With ours we kept the collar on even while sleeping. At first she would just stand there and not move....and when she got tired, she literally fell asleep standing up, and woke up when the collar touched the floor.

To help we got her on her bed and layed her down with the collar, they are pretty smart and will learn to adapt to it, besides, it's only temporary.

I highly recommend the collar because if the incision site starts to itch she will most like begin to lick it, which could lead to redness, swelling, or infection.

Additionally, you have to worry about her possibly trying bite or chew at the stitches.

The only time we took ours off was when she ate or when we were doing the "rinse" of the incision site.

For our little boy, when he had bladder stone surgery, he slept in a baby onesie at night. He always put on the shame face when we put the collar on him. He hated it too.
