When breeding correctly, you are not only producing quality show dogs, but you can track health problems in the lines, up to a point. You know what lines to stay away from and who to breed to. The goal being to produce quality healthy puppies that meet the breed standard. Showing them validates your breeding program as well as health testing the adults and the offspring.
I see no point in breeding pet quality. It is a crap shoot. A mish mash of bloodlines with probable health issues being thrown together. There would be no consistancy in the offspring. ie: pet quality!
Even if I only wanted a pet (not to breed or show) I would only buy from a breeder/exhibitor. I would be more likely to get a quality healthy puppy that actually looks like a Yorkie (or a different breed if I was looking for a certain breed) than I would if I bought from someone just selling pets. |
