Testosterone is the hormone responsible for marking, and the testes make the bulk of testosterone, but the adrenal gland makes some too. Since the testes are removed during a neuter testosterone in the blood will be greatly reduced, and after a month the level will be very low, but if the marking is firmly established, it probably will never be completely eliminated. You may want to get teeth checked during a neuter as well.
