Now, I think there is a bit of confusion going.
No, the AKC does not require you chip the pups you sell.
However, if you are operating a kennel your breeding dogs must be identified. Tatooing was the preferred method until Mircochipping entered the picture. Again if you are breeding dogs your breeding dogs must be identified. AKC does sell chips an scanners by a manufacturer of their choice.
In addition individual crates must have the dog's information on them. Registered Name, DOB, Sire & Dam names, registration number, DNA #, Chip #.
