Hmm, that is interesting. What is your Mom's personality like? My dog can sense when people are overly soft and she knows her limits with everyone.
If it happens at night, is she the only one who holds your Furbaby at that time? Or have you and others held her and not had the same experience?
Perhaps it could be a territorial action. Either way, I think that it would be beneficial to go outside immediately when it happens. I know it doesn't help after she has already eliminated, but that will make her more conscience of the fact of what is going on. (:
