puppy weights at 4 weeks Not sure this is where I should post this...I'm curious as what the average weight of a Yorkie puppy should be at 4 1/2 weeks. Not what the generic charts say, just what's average weights those that have had litters have actually experienced, assuming both parents weigh 5 1/2 pounds each, several generations back all weigh around 5 pounds (champion lines, research was done). I'm asking because one of our pups (first born boy) who weighed 6 ounces at birth now weighs 2 1/2 pounds! He plays, acts normal but is more shy than his lighter weight siblings (who weighed 4 1/2 and 5 oz at birth, currently a little over a pound). Mother is weaning, so he's not currently being over fed, but he was definitely a little piggy until recently. I'm asking because that seems pretty heavy to me and I thought maybe some of the experts here would know if he should be seen by a vet now rather than wait until it's vaccine time. (thyroid???) They were checked by a vet after birth and given a clean bill of health at that time. One breeder told me it's normal to weigh heavy the first month and after weaning they'll lose/maintain the weight. Any opinions?
I have a tendency to worry over the little things and just want to make sure they are healthy and get some opinions before I run to the vet.
Thanks to anyone with knowledge about these things. Kendra |
