I think it depends on the cat. We have two cats and when we first brought our first Yorkie home her and the one cat became fast friends playing all the time (and still do) the other cat was a different story, Gracie tried to play with him like she did the other cat and he rejected her, fought with her and she tried for a couple months...now they absolutely hate each other. She'll sleep with the one cat yet she won't forgive the other for "not liking her" and she tries to attack him (and him her) thus we have to keep them separated --- which is sad because he was kinda the "big" (18#) baby until she came. I don't see them ever getting along, thus he essentially lives downstairs and only comes up at night after she's gone to bed (crate). For the record he's not 'alone' downstairs he spends most of his time now with our teenage son who - as teenagers go - spends most of his time "downstairs" lol
