I think it depends on the dog and how the cat is.

I don't live with cats but I do visit and sleep at my father's house 1-2 nights a week with Jackson. Jackson was introduced to the 2 cats (one a kitten, one was 1 year old) at 9 weeks old. As a pup, he didn't really seem phased by them. Once he got older, he was definitely interested. With my dad also having a dog, the two of them would sometimes gang up on the cats. Now my dad has a 2nd dog so the 3 of them together will definitely torment the cats.... if they even hear the slighest sound of a 'meow' or the cats feet dropping to the floor, ALL 3 dogs go RUNNING and then the cats go retreat upstairs.

Jackson has been fine for the most part one-on-one with the cats. The female cat seems to like him and will rub up against him and he doesn't mind. The boy cat hisses at him a lot of times which drives Jackson nuts. So basically, Jackson would never try to hurt them, but it's definitely a love/hate sort of relationship. If they run, he WILL chase them. Bottom line, I will NEVER live with a cat and Jackson together, it's too annoying.... at night though I have caught them laying together so I think it's all an act! It's mainly just when the 3 dogs are TOGETHER... the only one who WILL snap is my dads JRT mix, I wouldn't trust her with the cats.
