I have to agree with this statement and would do exactly as she says.
The older dog should not be made to feel as if he has been 'demoted',
so to speak. I wouldn't leave them alone together either, as others
have noted. It's highly unlikely that introducing a third dog (the female)
into the mix will help. Some dogs never learn to get along. I hope your
two will. We have 2, older shelter dogs that are not and never will be
best friends. Re-homing them is not an option (they are in their teens
and have been through too much). We've learned to be creative in
keeping the dogs apart when we are not home. I wish you the very
best with your two!
