Too much protein isn't supposed to be bad for your Yorkie, but if she has a liver problem, then the high levels of protein will make her ill. Dogs should get very high protein levels in their food: they are carnivores and aren't able to digest grains. They need protein for energy, building muscles and maintaining body form.
Basically, protein is the most important food group that your Yorkie should get and the levels should be high, with no grains. Orijen is a great food (one of the absolute best) and I don't think you can go wrong with it. Just make sure that your puppy doesn't have a liver problem (have the vet do a bile acid test and blood tests).
Try to give the puppy's digestive system some time to get used to the new food and after about two weeks, you will see whether you need a change or not. If the puppy doesn't do well on Orijen, you might want to try Acana which has lower levels of protein.
