Oh I certainly understand and agree with you LJ....it never hurts to err on the side of caution especially when precautions can be easily taken, as is the matter in this case.

I found out the hard way that one of mine is allergic to shrimp...snatched up a miniscule crumb of a piece and spazzed out. Different things affect different dogs in different ways. Always something to be aware of.
Just to further explain where I'm getting this information so it doesn't seem like I'm just pulling numbers out of the air:
Every company is required to register the LD50 of their product with the FDA. (LD50 = lethal dose needed to kill 50 percent of controlled test subjects.)
The LD50 for the average warfarin containing rat poison (d-con, rodex, etc), as registered with the FDA is:
3mg per kg for 1x dose for rats and mice
3mg per kg for 5 days for dogs
Avg mouse = 30 g = .03 kg x 3mg (LD50) = .09 mg 1 time
Avg Yorkie = 5 lbs = 2.25 kg x 3mg (LD50) = 6.75 mg for 5 days
There is actually a rat poison out that I heard about not long ago formulated specifically for rodents...a dog would have to eat some ridiculous amount, like 20 lbs or something to be lethal. I don't remember the name of it though...it's one of those things that someone told me about that I 'wrote down' so I'd remember it and then go figure, have no idea where I wrote it down.
