You're right; my recommendation is 4 x a day until 18 weeks of age, then 3 times a day until 8 months of age. Keeping in mind each dog is different. I have some adults that are till fed 3 times a day because of their high energy level and others are only fed twice a day. On the average about an 8th of a cup of kibble mixed with about a tablespoon of wet food.
High quality foods provide more nutrients and vitimans and calories and can cause a weight gain a bit easier.
