You know - if you were as little as a Yorkie, it would be kind of hard being down on the floor all the time. You get down there and see how you like it. You can't see a thing. They want to be up where we are (not where our feet are)
So - of course, they learn quickly that the higher up they get - the more they can see what's going on around them. They have more fun and probably feel safer too.
My little dogs learned quickly to get up on my furniture. They all sit and sleep on the back of one big chair (cats and dogs) - where they can look around the room and out the window. They spend hours up there. It's their window to the world.
