This is the story of the mouse who cheated death - well for a short while anyway. I am terrified of rodents - mice and rats especially, but hamsters and gerbils are NOT cute either - they give me the creeps. My happy little home was invaded by a mouse so brazen that he/she ran across my kitchen splashboard IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. So I baited the trusty mouse trap and for three days the pesky varmit stole the bait and made his escape. So I did what any mouse fearing woman would do -- I bought a sticky trap. I HATE sticky traps, I think they are cruel and horrid, but this mouse missed his chance for a quick rather painless death. Skip forward to late late that night -- hubby out of town. Later that night I woke up from a deep sleep with something hitting the bed with a thud and a death curtling scream. Of course I screamed, smacked the place where hubby was supposed to be and flipped on the light. There was Killer the Cat, rubbing on the bed, screaming - with the sticky mouse trap, attached to her shoulder complete with a mouse.
If you've ever tried to dislodge a sticky trap from a terrified cat, you can understand my problem. Here I was in the middle of the night faced with removing the sticky trap from the cat while avoiding the mouse. The little mouse was deceased - from the looks in his beady little eyes he had a heart attack. It wasn't funny then, but I can laugh now. |
